Kiwanis Results for 2011

The band had another very successful Kiwanis season this year, earning Gold in Kitchener alongside the Cambridge Band and the Galt Kiltie Band. It was a great evening of band music as evidenced by the Gold results for all three groups.

The evening in Stratford was a remarkable event with the first appearance of Michael Purves-Smith leading the Stratford Concert Band. Michael recently retired from teaching at WLU and from leading the Wellington Winds, but he certainly hasn't stepped down from making great music. The Stratford Band was able to pull off some incredible pieces, including one that had Michael conducting and playing recorder, and which included a phenomenal flute solo that really didn't get the recognition it deserved.

The KMSB turned in an even better performance than they had done in Kitchener, earning a mark of 94 and the award for the best March of the competition. That's the best result we have seen at least in recent years. However, Stratford was able to earn a 95 which was the highest of the competition. Needless to say, it was a night that showcased the quality of community music in our area.
